- Blogging Health Check 3 -
On my final Blogging Health Check I received 11 marks. This is lower than my previous mark which suggests that my blog has been lacking the improvements needed to increase my grade and also that
the quality must have dropped during the creating of my title sequence.
Here is a comment left by my teacher:
Kenny, although your blog has lots of potential and you have a respectable blog post count of 46 posts, as we have moved into the production phase of the coursework your blog has become weaker and you have only posted 8 blog posts in 4 weeks, which is a pity and doesn't reflect all the hard work I have seen you do in class.
My strengths:
Beginning to use a range of ICT
Some evidence of planning
Some evidence of research
My weaknesses:
Titles for the blog posts aren't always clear
There are lots of key blogging tasks missing - storyboard, evidence of filming, evidence of editing
These are my targets:
1. upload your storyboard
2. upload evidence of filming and editing
3. improve your frequency of posting to the blog - post tasks when in lesson
4. make sure that your titles for each blog post are clear and correspond to the blog check list where relevant
I am quite disappointed in myself for the drop in my marks but I am determined to get everything up to date and presented neatly on my blog over the Christmas Holidays in time for blog deadline.

- New Script - By Kenny -
Edited Script for Grey Area
(Click of a recording device)
Maria: Ok Mr Roberts, walk me through what happened on the night of January 25th 2015.
Jackson: It was late in the evening...
Maria: Take your time.
Jackson: He was a young boy, medium build wearing a black and blue hoodie... (Pause) No wait, he was tall and slim wearing a khaki jacket with a grey hood. (Pause) He was running down the street and I started to chase after him....
Maria: Then what happened?
Jackson: He bumped into things...(Pause) No, he pushed things down to stop me from catching up to him. (Pause) It almost worked but I recovered faster then he thought followed him as he turned into the alleyway. (Pause) When he looked back and saw me there he tripped and fell on the ground. I started walking towards him and told him to stand up with his hands in the air.... He got up but then he started to reach inside his hoodie....
Maria: ...Then?
Jackson: (Gunshot) I don't know. The only thing I remember after that is the medics helping me onto the gurney.
Maria: Do you remember this young man?
Jackson: (pause) No.

Location of film - David
We will be filming our opening scene in the haringey ladder alley ways
How we will get to our location:
-From the city and islington college, we get one bus, 341, to green lanes
- Pitch Evaluation - By Kenny -
The average score we got for our pitch was 7 out of 10 which we think is very good. The highest mark we received was a 9.5 and the lowest was 6.
Some positive comments:
- Good presenting skills.
- Well researched and detailed pitch.
- Everyone spoke.
Some improvements:
- We could have used music or videos to entertain and interact with our audience.
- No definite locations and casting for characters.
Overall, we delivered a good pitch that allowed us to convey our ideas for our title sequence. Our aim is to finalise our locations and casts as soon as possible.
Here is a video containing all of the feedback forms that we received from our pitch.

- Final Locations - By Kenny -
During the process of filming we have had many different options to film our title sequence. After many discussions, risk assessments and safety precautions we have decided that our final location will be Haringey Ladder, London UK.
Here is a picture of where we will be filming:
The name of this specific alleyway is Cavendish Road.

Psychiatrist: Ok Mr Roberts walk me through what happened on January 25th 2015
Jackson Roberts: It was a
blur. He seemed almost like a stereotypical criminal. A black tracksuit with
the hood up. And we were informed that he was the ring leader of a small
criminal organisation in the area so I went to “check it out” On the way there I
saw him. And… um…
Psychiatrist: Take your
time.
Jackson
Roberts: I told him to freeze. He looked back and took off. He was
fast but I knew that I could catch him. So I chased him.
Psychiatrist:
Then what happened?
Jackson
Roberts: He tried to stop me at every chance he had. Throwing bins in
the way, bikes and sometimes even people. There was traffic. Heavy traffic. I almost
lost him as he disappeared into a dark alley but I followed him. It was a dead end. He was trapped. I had him. I saw him reach for his gun so had no choice but to reach for mine. And then...
Psychiatrist: Then...?
Jackson Roberts: (stutters) I.. I don't remember anything else.
Psychiatrist: Ok. (Holds up a picture) Do you remember this young man?
Jackson: (pause.. examines picture) No.

- Title Credits - David
Some of the fonts that we intend to use for the title credits will be slick and stylised. such as:

-Blackoak Std
-Euphemia
-Arial Unicode
-MingLiU_HKSCS- ExtB
The way that the credits will be integrated into the opening is that they will be appearing throughout, and we intend to make the transition fade when the titles vanish.
- Pitch Question 5 - Institutional detail - David
- Because of our film's low budget, our film will have to be an independent production.
- For the distribution of the film, we have created our own distributing company named 'Hitmarker Pictures'.
- Distributing companies that are similar to ours are independent ones such as A24 Films and Open Road Films.
- Films that are similar to ours from these distributers are:
- Open Road Films: The gunman, Nightcrawler, End of Watch, Killer Elite and sabotage
- A24 Films: Son Of A Gun, Enemy and A Most Violent Year
-These companies are a good choice as they make independent thriller films that do not have a very high budget.
- Blogging Health Check 2 -
On my second Blogging Health Check I received 13 marks which is quite an improvement from my previous mark.
Here is a comment that my teacher left:
Kenny, your blog has lots of promise and has really improved since the last health check - well done! With 38 posts, you are mostly up to date although some posts are empty or incomplete, which you will need to look at. There is lots of promise here however but the detail in each post (and how it is presented) needs to be more consistent if you are to increase your mark.
Here are my strengths.:
Some evidence of r&p
Some appropriate and effective use of ICT
Some detail in your individual posts to show your understanding and engagement
Here are my weaknesses:
Key planning tasks missing
Presentation - you don't fully title your posts which affects the presentation of the content. The moderator won't have the checklist so you need to make sure you give each post a clear and appropriate title
ICT - although you are beginning to use ICT to present ideas it isn't consistent and the planning tasks rely mostly on typing text directly into the post
Haphazard order in presenting work
Incomplete posts
These are my targets:
1. complete key planning tasks 28/34/35/36/37/38
2. update and finish any tasks 29/32 and 36
3.re-title posts using the check list and pitch task list to help guide you
4. continue to be creative and consistent in your use of ICT to present ideas
Although I have improved from my last Blogging Health Check, there are still many things that are lacking in my blogs which are preventing me to getting the best possible grades for myself. In order to change this I will try to complete all my targets and make sure my blog posts are detailed.

- Pitch Question 5 -Audience detail - By David -
I chose a film that is similar to ours which is ''A Walk The Tombstones'' and we used a website called 'YouGov.co.uk' to find statistics of the age group of the film with things such as their interests and lifestyles.
The way we will be attracted to the film by promotions on their favorite social network pages and also on news papers as this age group often read newspapers.
The promotion/marketing will be targeted towards them using the apps, websites and products the age group most often use.
- The film will be promoted with Samsung devices (the same manner 'The Avengers' films use Samsung for promotion)
- Apps such as Betfred and Sky sports will be core for attracting the primary target audience as they are often viewed by them
- Group 22's Ident and publisher Ident -
Our distributing company name is 'Hitmarker Pictures'.
We decided to use our ident to represent the genre of our film. The crosshair image is suppose to reflect someone aiming a gun. Also, we chose out font to be red as it is the first colour that the human eye sees so they are automatically attracted to it.
Here is a video of it:

Question 9 - Tristen - Unfinished
Sound
Because our title sequence is based on a narrative story line we will be using mainly diegetic sound as everything takes place in real time. Here is a list of the sound effects that are likely to be used in the title sequence and that are conventional sound effects to our genre. These sound effects reflect both the genre and narrative while also hinting about the plot of the film.

Question 3 - Tristen
Our genre decision is a crime thriller because it is highly popular amongst our target audience and contains some of the most interesting typography in film title sequences. The sub genre's are psychological and action.
The film title sequences that have inspired us are a "A Walk among The Tombstones" which has a similar narrative to our narrative idea and has standard codes and conventions of this genre.
The second film that inspired us was Gone Girl

- Pitch Question 2 - What type of title sequence is it? - By David -
- Our title sequence is intended to be a narrative as it shows the events that lead to the main story.
- Real title sequences that have influenced ours is the Gone Girl one because the sequence starts off with a flashback, just like our one. Another film that influenced us is A Walk Among the tombstones as the theme in the sequence is similar to our, being that a man shot someone prior to the story and is regretting it.
- We intend to follow the conventions of of thriller film openings because we believe that the thriller genre does a good job in engaging the audience in

-Pitch Question 14 -
During the planning and prelim process we have learned how to used the camera's with a wide range of attachments like the tripod. We have also learned how to use Premiere Pro alongside After affects.
Learning how to use the camera with attachments such as the tripos has allowed us to produce high quality stills , without any risk or chance of shaking the camera accidentally. The tripod allows for some movement along a chosen axis allowing for a perfectly smooth and level pan as well as a smooth angle change. We also learned how to use an audio recording device to begin learning the basics of sound design. This experience was very beneficial as it gave us quite a good inside to the life of a sound designer as well as helping us to learn and practice thinking outside of the box. Learning how to think outside the box not only strengthens our sound design skills, but it improves our creativity when it comes to story planning and creative editing.
Premiere pro has allowed us to put together all the footage we have captured, and edit it down so that only the best and most relevant scenes are present. We are then able to add cuts and transitions to make the sequence look more professional. Premiere pro directly communicates and links with after effects and photoshop. This makes it extremely easy for us to keep everything updated and on the same page , as well as use each software type to perfect our product.

- Pitch - -Question 4 Representation-
Some of the characters we plan to show in the title sequence is the main character "Jackson Roberts" who is a police officer suspected to be responsible for the murder of a young 16 year old.As well as the murder victim himself ( name to be decided ). We decided to choose the two characters as they are both on the opposite ends of the spectrum. One is an officer of the law, sworn to serve and protect, The other is a young criminal ( or suspected criminal) on the run from the police. Showing these two opposing teams perfectly portrays the "crime" genre to the audience as well as sets up our story.
We chose these two character as they clearly show two of the different social groups in our film. The police trying to enforce the law. And the criminals/rebels try g to avoid it.
We begin by showing these social groups in a stereotypical way ( the police being the good guys and he criminals being the bad guys) But then begin to relate these two social groups to the films title "Grey Area". This title refers to all the things that everybody misses out on, all the undercover information that isn't told and all the plot then won't be revealed till the very end. After showing the title grey area we begin to start showing these social groups in a different light. Straying away from the stereotypes and conventions to give the audience a unique story.

-The Pitch- -Question 7-
The type of locations we plan to use are urban locations in a city environment. As our story is set in the present we will need to find somewhere that perfectly captures what life is like today.
Some of the scenes in our title sequence involve alleyways, as we are trying to portray the rough and criminal aspects of this movie to the audience through the environments and locations we use. To find these locations as a group we have all been on the look out for prime filming spots that portray everything we need as we go about our everyday lives and bring our feedback and knowledge to the table whenever we get the chance
Some of the locations we have chosen are....

- The Pitch - Question 8 - By Kenny -
a) These are the props that we intend to use in our title sequence:
Prop Gun
We need a prop gun as it is the object that will be used to shoot Jackson Roberts. Without this prop, the scene in the alleyway would not make sense and it wouldn't be possible to refer to protagonist's PTSD. Although it would be easier to film with two guns, it is not essential.
Notepad and Pen

A notepad and pen are other essential props in our title sequence. These will be used by Maria Woodworth in the second scene to note down Jackson's thoughts.
Other non essential props we may use are a badge for Jackson to show that he is a police officer and a flashlight for the alleyway chase scene.
b) Costumes
Jackson Roberts: We aimed for this character to look casual.
