- What Are The Four Different Types of FIlm Openings -
1) Titlees on a blank screen.
Usually White typeface on a black background for high contrast. It was used because they are a low budget, simple, uncomplicated way to include institutional information at the start of a movie.
2) Titles on still images.
More elaborate. Created to include hand drawn boarders and other images. Using visually references along with sound to help hint at the tone and genre of the movie. It coincides with credits getting longer to incorporate more than just the studio names and film maker.
3) Titles over moving images
Usually no dialogue.They use moving images to offer a metaphor, narrative thread to help introduce the tone of the movie as well as some of the main characters.
4) Titles using animation or motion
Titles became integrated with the text to be more visually pleasing and entertaining.
My favourite type of film opening is the Titles over moving images.
I prefer these as they are able to advance the narrative as well as give some backstory and prologue to the main story. This helps intrigue the audience and get them instantly interested in the film as they have already begun learning about the lore behind the movie. An example of this is:
