Four Different types of film openings

1 - Title over a blank screen

Titles over a blank screen are literally just that. Usually consisting of black text on a white background for high contrast, titles over a blank screen are very simple, easy and therefore low budget which explains the popularity of this type of title sequence around 50 years ago.

2 - Title over a still image

Titles over a still image were definitely more advanced. The colour scheme was expanded in the title sequence and consisted of different borders of different styles. This type of title sequence introduced the idea of lengthening credits at the beginning of films.

3 - Title over a moving image

Titles over a moving image are usually used metaphorically and used to introduce the genre and tome of the film itself as well as hinting features of the plot of the film. They usually contain no dialogue.

4 - Title using animation and motion

My personal favourite type of film opening would be titles that utilise animation and motion. This is because they are able to advance the narrative and provide  clear sense of genre and sometimes a backstory. These film openings tend to be more visually pleasing and gripping for the audience.
